The Nature Morte project is a series of interior photos of the front-line houses that local residents were forced to leave. Those houses were damaged by Russian artillery, multi-apartment buildings were destroyed by enemy aircrafts, private houses were occupied by Russian soldiers. They all stand open and abandoned and seem to scream about their fate.
This series presents the “Russian World”, which was actually brought to the peaceful Ukrainian settlements. The Nature Morte project is based on scattered things, mutilated furniture, stories of interiors of families that lived here before the arrival of the Russian “liberators”.
Torn clothes, broken windows, forgotten toys, a dead cat whose bones were crushed by the explosion wave. Stories of death and suffering, hasty escape, shelling and bombing, occupation by Russian troops.
Some rooms have just been vacated by the residents – there is still food in the kitchens, the curtains, which are still closed for the night, let light of strange colors into the rooms.
The project was performed in January-April 2023 in the East of Ukraine in Izyum, Bakhmut, Chasyv Yar and Kamyanka village.
